iOS 27.2 Brings Group FaceTime Dual Capture, a Reworked Podcasts Queue and Apple TV Profiles

Apple's next major iPhone software update, due next week, adds three notable features across FaceTime, Podcasts and the TV app.

Apple is preparing to release iOS 27.2 next week, the next major iPhone software update. According to 9to5Mac, iOS 27.1 is limited to the iPhone Duo, which makes 27.2 the broader release. Three of its new features stand out.

The first is an expansion of Dual Capture in FaceTime, which arrived with iOS 27 and was described as one of the biggest FaceTime upgrades in years. On compatible iPhone models, Dual Capture shows the front and rear camera views at the same time. Users tap the Flip button, and the rear camera goes live while the front camera stays active.

In iOS 27, the feature works only in one-on-one calls. With iOS 27.2, it extends to Group FaceTime calls as well.

The second change affects Apple Podcasts, where the Up Next queue at the top of the Home tab is being split into two sections. The first, New Episodes, takes the place of Up Next and gathers the latest releases from shows a user follows.

The second section, Continue Playing, is new. It sits directly beneath New Episodes and serves as a central place for shows that a listener has started but not finished.

The 9to5Mac writer has previously criticized Up Next as cluttered and confusing, and said the new layout is a big improvement. After testing it in the beta, the writer concluded that it helps users keep better track of what they are listening to.

The third feature brings user profiles to the Apple TV app on iPhone. Profiles have existed on tvOS, but this is the first time they come to iOS. When users first open the TV app after updating, they will see a profile selection screen, which can be turned off so it no longer appears.

Once profiles are in use, the app adjusts the content it shows and recommends to match the selected viewer. When a child's profile is active, only age-appropriate series and movies from Apple are displayed.

According to 9to5Mac, that setup keeps an adult's own viewing queue uncluttered and helps ensure children do not come across unsuitable material when they watch on a parent's iPhone. The outlet also reports that iOS 27.2 adds new features in six iPhone apps in total.
